Bark to Bark Slabs
The beauty of having sensational West Australian hardwoods available right here on our doorstep – is using them! Capturing the essence of the great outdoors, a bark-edge timber slab is a highly prized possession, one that reminds us of the intricacies and true beauty of natural wood. Referred to also as natural-edge or live-edge, Greand’s bark-edge timber slabs allow the original contours of the tree to be seen, by cutting a cross-section slice from bark to bark.
Native timber species milled for bark-edge slabs include jarrah, marri, karri, sheoak and WA blackbutt, as well as various exotic timbers sourced off-shore. Greand’s sawmill supplies slabs machined flat in preparation for sanding, then air dried and kiln dried to stabilize and lessen chances of twisting, warping and cracking. Bark-edge slabs are perfect when finished as table tops, kitchen benches, counter and bar tops, beautifully incorporating natural shapes and textures into the home or workplace.
Straight grained or highly figured, every one of Greand Timbers bark-edge slabs is just as individual and unique as each customer. The trees have been growing for a long time to reach the great widths of our hardwood slabs, which can be straight edged or cut to size depending on your requirements. Perhaps your project calls for two book matched boards? Or slabs showcasing decorative burl, curly or fiddleback features?
